Cliff Vrieze of Spring Valley began looking into Medicare enrollment just before his 65th birthday four years ago. Without help, this proved to be a frustrating and confusing experience. But Katie, certified Medicare counselor and aging expert at Senior LinkAge Line, explained Medicare and answered all of Cliff's questions.

This August, the Senior Age Line /governor/assets/senior_linkage_line_day_2014_tcm1055-114200.pdfcelebrates 20 years of serving older Minnesotans and their families by connecting them at no cost to the resources they need. The Senior LinkAge Line is marking this milestone by unveiling a new 20-year anniversary logo, which will be prominently featured at the Minnesota Board on Aging's booth in the Education Building at the Minnesota State Fair.

The Senior LinkAge Line, 1-800-333-2433, has grown in breadth and depth of services since it was first established by the Minnesota Board on Aging in 1994. Most recently, under the Dayton-Prettner Solon Administration, the Senior Linkage Line has become a One Stop Shop for Minnesota Seniors, helping callers to access services in other state agencies, find out about volunteer and employment opportunities and information about "Own Your Future" so they can plan for long-term care as they age.

In 2013, nearly 176,000 individuals received Senior LinkAge Line phone or in-person help in areas such as advocacy, long-term care options counseling, prescription drug expenses, caregiver planning and more. As the designated State Health Insurance Counseling Assistance provider for Minnesota, the Senior LinkAge Line provided health insurance counseling to more than 100,000 Minnesotans last year.

After a few more calls and one personal visit with Katie, Cliff was able to choose a plan that fit his financial and medical situation, as well as his future plans, which included out-of-state travel. Cliff's experience was so positive he joined the Senior LinkAge Line team and has been a regular volunteer since 2011!
