New study cites complex specialty care, high performing procedures and conditions, for top national ranking

ST. PAUL, MN – Minnesota's Mayo Clinic is the best hospital in the country, according to a new national ranking conducted by U.S. News & World Report

The annual ranking named Mayo Clinic to the top of the “Best Hospitals Honor Roll” for the third consecutive year. In the report, Mayo Clinic scored the highest in more categories than any other hospital in the United States, ranking nationally in 15 adult specialties and seven children’s specialties. Mayo Clinic also received the highest possible score in nine procedure and conditions evaluations.

The ranking evaluated 5,000 hospitals around the country for their performances in 16 adult specialties, ten pediatric specialties, and nine adult procedures and conditions. The study compared the quality of care demonstrated for the sickest, most medically complex patients to determine specialty rankings, and assessed the quality of care for typical patients to determine the procedures and conditions scores. To determine the overall top 20 performing hospitals in the country, the final assessment combined evaluations from the specialty rankings with the procedures and conditions scores.
