Governor Dayton Announces Upcoming Vacancy on Minnesota Supreme Court

ST. PAUL, MN – Governor Mark Dayton announced today the commencement of a process to fill a vacancy on the Minnesota Supreme Court, created upon the United States Senate’s confirmation of the appointment of Associate Justice David R. Stras to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
 
“I congratulate Justice Stras, and thank him for his service to the people of Minnesota on our state’s highest Court,” said Governor Dayton. “I will ask members of the Commission on Judicial Selection to begin their consideration of applicants to fill that vacancy.”
 
Governor Dayton has asked the Commission on Judicial Selection to aid in the review and selection process for this vacancy. The at-large members of the Commission will consider applicants and offer recommendations to Governor Dayton. The Commission on Judicial Selection and Governor Dayton are committed to seeking out individuals who possess great integrity, extensive legal knowledge, broad experience, and a commitment to fairness.
 
The application process is now open for this vacancy. Application materials are due by the close of business on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. The Commission will conduct interviews on Friday, March 16, 2018.
