Saint Paul – The following is a statement from Governor Tim Pawlenty upon signing House File 3569, a bill that provides funding for the study of mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer that has been found in large numbers among mineworkers in northeastern Minnesota. Governor Pawlenty signed the bill this afternoon.

“I’m pleased we were able to work with the legislature to reach a compromise that ensured these important studies will move forward. We’re hopeful the answers they reveal will help protect current and future mineworkers and bring some measure of closure to the families of those whose lives were taken by this disease.”
