A STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR -- March 24, 2006

The following is a statement from Governor Tim Pawlenty regarding his trip to Iraq.  The Governor was invited to be part of a delegation led by U.S. Senator John McCain.

"2,600 Minnesota National Guard soldiers will soon be on the ground in the Middle East as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Together with Minnesota Reserves and active duty military, there will be more than 3,000 Minnesota soldiers in Iraq.

"During this trip I will be getting a forward look at the challenges and conditions our Minnesota soldiers will now be facing.  No other group of men and women so richly deserve the title of hero.  While different opinions exist regarding the war, we should all fully support our warriors.  Their willingness to serve our country is inspiring.  I'm looking forward to meeting Minnesotans serving in Iraq, as well as military, Iraqi and other Middle Eastern leaders during my visit."
