Department of Education

“Our state has long been a national leader when it comes to educating its children.

During his 2006 State of the State Address, Governor Tim Pawlenty highlighted the key role that education has played in Minnesota’s past and will play in its future, saying: “Education made Minnesota what it is today, and education will make us what we will be tomorrow.”

Minnesota’s dedication to education has been a key to our state’s highly educated work force, civic activism, high standard of living and leadership in high-tech fields such as the medical device industry.

Yet, we recognize that because tomorrow holds new challenges, we can’t rely on our past success. That is why, under the Governor’s leadership, we have launched several new initiatives to improve student achievement, close the achievement gap and improve teacher quality.”

-Alice Seagren, Commissioner
