Mission:  The mission of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is to work with citizens to conserve and manage the state's natural resources, to provide outdoor recreation opportunities, and to provide for commercial uses of natural resources in a way that creates a sustainable quality of life.

Goal:

Minnesota’s natural lands and habitats will be conserved and enhanced

     Number of acres protected in Wildlife Management Areas
     Number of acres in conservation land retirement programs under state and federal farmland programs
     Number of acres acquired for local community projects funded with grants 
     Number of habitat acres protected and restored in the Twin Cities metro region 
     Number of counties with a County Biological Survey

Goal:

Minnesota’s fish and wildlife will be conserved and enhanced

    Amount of lakeshore habitat restored / number of lakeshore workshop participants
    Number of pounds of walleye fingerlings stocked/walleye population levels
     Loon population levels in six lake index areas
     Hunter satisfaction levels
     Number of Wild turkey hunting permits offered
     Number of prairie wetland complexes and wild rice lakes actively managed for waterfowl
     Number of youth hunting license sales / number of participants in special youth hunts
 

Goal:

Minnesota’s water resources and watersheds will be conserved and enhanced 

    Number of counties with a County Geologic Atlas or Regional Hydrogeologic Assessment
    Number of abandoned wells sealed on state lands
     Number of buildings removed to prevent flood damages
     Number of river miles under Adopt-a-River Stewardship
     Number of water bodies infested with Eurasian watermilfoil and zebra mussels
   

Goal:

Minnesota’s forests will be managed for a full range of forest values

    Number of acres of state-administered lands approved for forest certification
    Number of cords of wood offered for sale on DNR lands
     Number of acres of old-growth forests protected on DNR lands
     Number of acres of private forest lands with forest stewardship plans
   

Goal:

Minnesota will have a high-quality and diverse outdoor recreation system

    Percent satisfied with visit to a Minnesota state park
    Number of natural habitat acres enhanced in the state park system
    Number of state forests officially reclassified with signed road/trail designation orders
    Number of access points acquired/developed along high-priority lakes and rivers
